Abstract
TheEnquiringClassroommethodologieshavebeendevelopedincollaborationwithteachersandothereducators.Itisunderpinnedbyaphilosophyofeducationthathasdevelopedthroughthisengagement.Thisre-articulatestherelationshipbetweenvalues,democracyandeducation.TheEnquiringClassroom’screativepedagogicalstrategiesaredesignedtoengageteachersandstudentsinthinkingandtalkingabouttherichstoriesofourcommonworld,thepluralisticnatureoflifeandsociety,theexistentialdimensionsofthehumancondition,andthevaluesthatholdus.Bybeingclearaboutthenormsandvaluesthatgoverneducationalspaces,itcanbecomeeasiertonavigatedifficultconversations,includingthoseaboutidentity,colonialism,ethics,values,religionsandbeliefs,diversity,belongingandviolence.Educationalspacesinvolve‘puttingmattersonthetable’inaneducationalway.Throughculturallyresponsiveandculturallysustainingpedagogies,studentsareinvitedtobringtheirlife-worldsintoeducationalspaces,andteachersareencouragedtoseethisaspartoftheculturalandeducationalrichnessofclassroomandschoollife.Byalsoaskingstudentstofacehistoricandcontemporaryinjusticesandconflicts,educationalspacescanalsobecomespacesinwhichwecometounderstandwhytheworldishowitisandimaginehowitmightbeotherwise.Eachnewgenerationcanthuscometotakeonthetaskofreimaginingandrenewingourcommonworld.
