Education is a fundamental human right with the potential to transform lives. Education is a force for change, development and peace in our world. Every child has the right to access safe, quality education as a means to realise their own potential and exit poverty. SDG 4, Quality education is at the heart of all the SDG goals. This goal requires that all girls and boys complete free primary and secondary schooling by 2030. It also aims to eliminate gender and wealth disparities, to achieve equal and universal access to affordable vocational training and quality higher education. Achieving inclusive and quality education for all reaffirms the belief that education is one of the most powerful and proven vehicles for sustainable development. This chapter provides an overview of SDG 4, including a discourse on the right to education, an overview of relevant learning objectives and some sample practical learning activities for exploring this SDG in the classroom.
