Abstract

It is important as teachers that we make our learners aware of the importance of water in our world. SDG 6 addresses the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Unfortunately, access to clean drinking water and sanitation and hygiene are denied to many. This chapter highlights the importance of access to clean safe drinking water, good sanitation, hygiene education and well-monitored water quality. The lesson ideas support students’ development as responsible water users as they gain a better understanding of the water cycle, water pollution and treatment. Learning can be linked to everyday contexts by increasing awareness of ways to reuse our water and become more aware of improving our water management. Effective water sustainability can have a positive impact on food and energy production, and thus economic growth. Understanding and managing our water systems responsibly can help to preserve ecosystems and thus contribute to positive climate action.
