Science & Maths Week (Community Engagement)

Project: Teaching & Learning

Project Details

Description

Annual design, organisation and co-ordination of workshops for primary school pupils and teachers in the mid-west region focusing on mathematics problem solving and integrated STEM challenges.

For the Brainteaser bandits, teachers and their classes are invited on-campus to engage in a range of interactive problem-solving challenges. When completing the various challenges, pupils are guided by our mathematics education specialism student teachers. While during COVID, materials and challenges were sourced, packaged and delivered to a group of 20 primary schools, since 2022/23, our workshops provide students with opportunities to engage in integrated STEM tasks with a strong emphasis on the engineering design process.

For the PE and STEM workshops, the focus moves to developing student and practicing primary teachers' understandings through active sessions unpacking potential integration opportunities between PE (athletics, gymnastics) and mathematics and science.

These collaborations showcase authentic integration practices across mathematics, science, technology, and physical education
